Abstract Jayaram K. Chanur

Details Farmers scrap away the top layer of soil to the boundaries of the field with the help of the tractor drawn scrapper. However, the depth of the scrapped layer is not fixed. It depends on the slope and topography of the soil. Collected soil is used for preparing the strong bunds around the field which help in harnessing the rain water. People believe that most of the salt is removed with the upper layer of the soil. Farmer follow this practice just before the onset of the monsoon.
